Selling to buy: doing both without the squeeze
The question is the order: sell first, buy first, or line them up for the same week.
- Start with what your home is worth and what you'd keep after the sale. That number sets your next price range.
- A flat fee instead of a percentage means you keep more of your equity for the next home.
- If you have a homestead now, Florida lets you carry up to $500,000 of its Save Our Homes savings to your next Florida homestead within three years (portability).
- You can ask to make your purchase depend on your sale, or line up both closings for the same week. Your broker can lay out which fits your timing.
