Your first home, step by step
Most of the stress comes from not knowing the order. Here it is.
- Get pre-approved first. It tells you your real price range, and sellers take your offer seriously.
- Plan for closing costs on top of the down payment, often a few percent of the price. Your lender's Loan Estimate shows the exact figures.
- Get an insurance quote early. In Florida the roof's age and wind protection change the price a lot.
- Have the home inspected before you're locked in. You'll know what you're buying, and what to ask the seller to fix or credit.
- Florida has first-time buyer help programs. They change often, so ask your lender which are open now.
