After you move in
A few things to do in the first year, and your broker is still your broker.
- If it's your main home, apply for the homestead exemption with the Volusia County Property Appraiser by March 1 of next year.
- Keep your closing papers, especially the settlement statement and the deed. You'll want them at tax time and when you sell.
- Your first tax bill may be higher than the seller's was, because the assessed value resets after a sale. Your escrow payment may change with it.
- Your insurance renews every year. A wind mitigation report on file can lower it.
